Seasonal care that keeps your pond at its best

A pond is an important part of your landscape, both in how it looks and how it works. To stay at its best it needs regular and seasonal upkeep. Size, location, and feature type all affect how often service is needed. With over 20 years in the field, we have built a process that makes maintenance easy, with flexible packages shaped to your pond and your season.

  • Spring cleanout, Mid-Season Cleaning, and winter shutdown
  • Water treatments
  • Debris removal
  • Skimmer basket and net cleaning
  • Hiding exposed liner
  • Boulder touch-ups
  • Waterfall scrubbing
  • Aquatic plant care

Keep your water feature healthy and thriving

A pond brings something to your living space that a standard garden cannot. While nature keeps wild water in balance on its own, a built water feature needs a little help. Whether you have an ecosystem pond, a pondless waterfall, or a fountain, seasonal maintenance keeps the whole system clean, clear, and thriving.

Ongoing seasonal maintenance plans

Water feature maintenance is ongoing, year-round care. Instead of calling us when something goes wrong, you choose a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly plan and our team visits on a regular schedule to keep your pond, pondless waterfall, or fountain healthy from the first warm day of spring to the first hard freeze.

Each plan includes the big seasonal moments: the spring cleanout that opens the feature back up, fall service to clear leaves before they sink and break down, and winter shutdown to protect the pump and plumbing through Central Iowa's cold months. Between those visits we handle water treatments, skimmer and filter care, debris removal, waterfall scrubbing, and plant care, so small issues are caught early and never turn into big repairs. For homeowners in Des Moines, Ankeny, Johnston, Ames, and Indianola, it is the easiest way to enjoy a water feature without spending weekends working on it.

Maintenance vs a one-time cleaning

A maintenance plan is a recurring relationship. The same team gets to know your feature, keeps a steady eye on water quality and equipment, and handles every season for you. A cleaning is a single, deep service, like a spring cleanout or a full drain and clean, that resets a pond at one point in time.

Many owners start with a one-time cleaning and then move to a plan to keep the results. If you only need a single visit, see our cleaning services. If you want the pond looked after all year, a maintenance plan is the right fit.

We can take over a pond someone else built

It does not matter who built your water feature. We maintain ponds, pondless waterfalls, and fountains across Des Moines and Central Iowa that were installed by other contractors, by previous homeowners, or by the owners themselves. Many of our maintenance clients moved into a home with a pond and simply did not know where to start.

For a feature that is new to us, we usually begin with an Exploratory Drain and Clean, a full drain, deep clean, and inspection that shows us how the pond is built and whether anything needs attention. From there we recommend the plan that fits. If you are new to owning a water feature, our first-time owner guide is a good place to start.

“Can’t say enough about how much my pond means to me. Such joy in the heartland to have running water and koi fish and lily pads that the frogs hang out on in the summer. Ask for Will to build your pond. He won’t steer you wrong. And Clay keeps things running and cleaned out.”
