About This Project

For this project, we were tasked with creating a relaxing koi pond that the client could enjoy from the patio, porch swing, and their hot tub along with views from inside the home. The location was in Polk City, Iowa, and the clients missed the large pond they had at their prior home and were wanting to bring that to their new home.

The Challenge/ What Made This Unique

A challenging aspect of this build was that we were only one piece of the overall vision for this space. The client had already created a beautiful “getaway” in their backyard with a porch swing, patio space for entertaining, and a covered hot tub for them to relax with plans to upgrade the space even more down the road. Our goal was to add a beautiful koi pond to the yard that didn’t take away from these aspects, but rather work with them in order to turn this backyard into a true at-home paradise.

Our Solution

Our team designed a pond that can be seen, heard and enjoyed from every area of the backyard as well as from inside the home with views through the windows. The pond was positioned in a way where it doesn’t obstruct any entry points in or out of the yard, but it does allow for enjoyment from any spot you may be relaxing or entertaining. 

  • Design Approach: “We designed a pond that seamlessly integrates with the existing patio and entertaining space.”
  • Implementation: “The pond was built to maximize viewing angles around the space and a berm was created to give height to the waterfalls and add a sense of ‘mystery’ when entering the area.”
